The SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator promotes economic growth in the Western Southern Tier of New York by supporting entrepreneurship and the development of new, innovative, technology-based companies into successful business ventures. The Incubator, located in the commercial waterfront district of Dunkirk, New York, provides new technology-based firms with a connection to the resources they need to grow and sustain long-term success. This takes place in an environment that fosters technology development, commercialization and successful business management practices. To accomplish this, The Incubator makes available a variety of business and education services; mentoring, professional consulting, access to capital and work-ready space. The Incubator combines these resources and those of SUNY Fredonia, state and local government, area businesses, and the community in order to graduate businesses that are financially viable and freestanding.
Business Formation and Setup
The Incubator staff, in partnership with local professionals, helps the entrepreneur to address the requirements of setting up a business including, writing a business plan, staffing, intellectual property, public relations, permits, marketing, accounting and legal issues.
Business Consulting, Mentoring & Training
Through our experienced staff and a network of service providers and advisors, we offer access to a variety of business professionals who are uniquely qualified to help you with the critical issues faced by startup companies. Through our connection to SUNY Fredonia we can also provide access to faculty who can provide expert advice to emerging companies.
Business and Peer Networking
Clients will have the opportunity to interact with fellow entrepreneurs and other business professionals. These opportunities allow them to benefit from other’s experiences and contacts for advice, vendors, customers, etc.
Students from SUNY Fredonia, in a variety of different academic programs, are available for internship opportunities available in a tenant business.
NYS & SUNY Technology Centers
State and University-affiliated technology centers exist throughout New York State. These centers specialize in disciplines from nanotechnology, life sciences and environmental research to material engineering and information technology. Clients have access to the resources of these centers
The incubator can connect client businesses with experts in the areas of technology commercialization, grant management and the legal protection of intellectual property
Office Space & Furnishing
The incubator is a newly constructed building specially designed as a “green” facility to serve the most important space requirements of technology- based startups. Businesses needing office space, clean rooms, assembly areas, and media or internet labs can be accommodated.
Paths to Funding
The incubator has access to two pre-seed capital loan funds and maintains an ongoing relationship with a number of state, regional and local funding sources. Incubator staff can assist clients with the process of qualifying for and connecting with appropriate sources of capital.
